Cathy (Nipntuck)

I was able to hear David Sedaris live in Charlotte, NC a couple of years ago, and met his dad at my step-mother's sister's house (he is a neighbor in a regular kind of neighborhood) in Raleigh for a Christmas party several years ago. It was pretty weird talking with a man who's son had used his childhood as comic fodder, but dad was really proud and delighted with his son's fame.

I bet he is just grand in person! I love listening to his live recordings.

Doesn't DS say somewhere that family has stopped telling him things b/c they don't want to end up in a comedy routine?

Tried MTPOD on the recommendation of a family member. Just did not send me. Clearly I am not Good Reads material.

I remember reading that his family asked him to stop using family dialogue as fodder for his writing. I believe that is when he came out with "Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary," a book I haven't read, because, it's not about his family. He has since returned to including them in his writing (his sister Tiffany committed suicide in 2013, and he published an essay in the New Yorker article about it: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/10/28/131028fa_fact_sedaris?currentPage=all.

As someone who is guilty of using my family in my writing, it's a tough topic. His family doesn't always come across so well, so , who can blame them for complaining?
