Are you, like, "Kevin? What kind of a name for a peacock is that?"
I mean, I can see Lancelot, Galahad, maybe Lord Voldemort, if you are the dark humor sort. But Kevin?
The day prior to meeting Kevin, the children and I had marveled at man walking past us who was drinking beer from a can using a straw. We were gobsmacked. Beer? With a straw? By all the laws of nature that's just wrong. Hope took one look at Kevin and announced, "Kevin? It's like drinking beer from a straw!" Indeed, wise beyond her years, that one.
I lured this one to my camera range with some left over caramel popcorn. Now he might be named Kevin. And I know he's a he because the female looks an awful lot like the female Widowbird. Kevin II is probably a Southern Masked Weaver, if I have managed to identify him properly.
When I was younger, we had a bird feeder off the deck of my parent's house. It was a wintertime activity, feeding the birds and watching them. We attracted at least a dozen common species and I could sit forever watching the wee birds swoop in and dine. Since that time, I've not been much of a "bird watcher," and I've certainly never been serious about it. But traveling through different African countries, I understand why people find it so compelling. Birds are so beautiful and there are so very many different varieties of feathered friends to enjoy.
Next: Goodbye South Africa
My mom has a friend who has a peacock named Clive. I think that's a decent peacock name but that's just becasue the only other Clive I know is a British man who wears very brightly colored dress shirts to work (they might as well be ladies' blouses). Clive-the-Peacock is madly in love with a stuffed duck and regularly tries to seduce it.

I think Clive is an exactly right name for a peacock! Especially one that has designs on a stuffed duck.

LOL our local friendly peacock is "Romeo"... he doesn't stop by only attempting amorous relationships with various birds, he also tries to share the love with goats, guinea pigs and very small dogs LOL
