I've talked about the Brno Christmas Market two years running, plus mentioned it when discussing my beloved Trdelník. But, as the markets this time of the year leave me feeling a tremendous love for where I live, I figure three's a charm. This is likely our last year in Europe, so this may well be the last time I lock elbows with some ancient babička for the last Vanocni Cukrovi (Christmas Cookie)
I am tearing up just looking at this photo. Ugh.
We all have our perennial favorites. For the children, it's the Weapons Booth. What Christmas Market is complete without a Weapons Booth? No guns in Europe, naturally, just assorted wooden swords, shields and pikes. I will say, blushing furiously, that my children are armed to the teeth. So are their friends. They sword fight. With shields. Across gender. Some days they even wear armor. It's a pretty safe bet Parent of the Year is not in my future.
Anyway, moving right along, here Jeff is eyeing up some really handsome bells. We plan to have a farm again, and have always been charmed with the notion of having a bell outside the kitchen back door to ring at dinnertime. We'll need something fairly large, so the children can hear over the sound of clanking swords. Still looking; these were quite pricey, with some of the large bells upward of $200US. Not really in the budget this year. Besides, we don't have a "kitchen back door."
My holiday favorite: Medovina!! Honey wine. Yum! Wine that tastes like candy! For the adult beverage drinker whose taste buds never really got past age 6.
But, of course, I jest. The real favorite of the Brno Christmas Market is the Trdelník. As previously mentioned, I waited in line about twenty minutes to get a couple of Trdelníky for the children.
Tom waited a bit with me.
It wasn't a bad wait overall. It was getting to be dusk, and the sun was setting.
I'm going to miss Brno.
