And the only prescription is more cowbell.
I know, you can't believe I just said that. Jeff woke me up hear the sound of these cowbells on the Grimsel Pass. I was glad he woke me up, because the drive was spectacular. Motoring through the Swiss Alps is awe-inspiring; even for those of us who typically shun switchbacks as serious nausea inducers.
This is the road we came down. It goes farther down than you can see (far, far, farther down) into the depths of the valley. There are a few remote hotels up here. Seriously remote.
The scenery was spectacular; the day was a bit overcast, so the photos aren't the best. But a few are kind of cool.
And then there was this scenery. I was astonished by the number of bikers we saw traversing the Pass. It peaks at just under 2200 meters. And the fitness levels these guys (and every once in a while a women), must possess is beyond my comprehension. This guy, for example, just came down the road in the photo above and was working his way back up again. He was traveling with no gear. So, was there a chase car? Was he riding from B&B to B&B insearch of the perfect adrenaline high? Or in training with a bike team?
I don't know, but it made me hurt just to look at him.
Spectacular view!
