CHILE! We made it. Whew.
Dodgy looking bunch. We have been on the road since December 16th, so at this point not everyone in the photo is wearing fresh underdrawers. That is snow in the background, on the smoking volcano.
Villarrica volcano in the background, quietly smoking. To be clear, Villarrica is not the volcano that has wrecked havoc with the Argentine tourist industry (I would never be so presumptuous as to say "with our carefully constructed travel itinerary," although, technically that would also be true).
The volcano that erupted six months ago was the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle complex, and while we will be in that area in the next few days, the issue isn't danger from continuing eruption, it is rather a thick pall of ash that is ever present. Details, of course, at some future point when time and internet connectivity are all available at the same moment.
FYI, the place we have landed in Pucon has fabulously fast internet, however, the power cut out this morning. So, you can't have everything.

Have you been affected by the fires in Patagonia? She says, displaying her appalling knowledge of South American geography.

Not wearing fresh underdrawers? How did you ever get someone close enough to take your photo? Oh, wait....it's a telephoto lens. ;)

Snow and tank top. Hmmm...

TMI about the underdrawers, but not surprising since you've been on the road for two weeks!
