I volunteer in the library at the children's school. I have a life long love of words and books and reading, so it is a natural fit. However, before the school would allow me access to the library, and potentially, contact with the children in the library, I was required to trot myself over to the local police for a Criminal Record Check.
I was assured that this was an international search, as I am not even a resident of this country (I reside in the Czech Republic, and visit Austria to get the children to school, thanks for asking), and I was really curious as to what a local Criminal Check would turn up, as I am not even guilty of a parking ticket. Yet.
Anyway. I went to the police. They kindly sent me upstairs with a confusing set of directions (left, right, left, that sort of thing) and I ended up here. Read the sign, shrugged my shoulders thinking I had a 50% chance of ending up in the right place and went left.
M-E-L-D-E-S-T-E-L-L-E F. P-R-O-S-T-I-T-U-I-O-N-S. The A-N-G-E-L-E-G-E-N-H-E-I-T-E-N looked good, anyway. That might have something to do with "English." Or "Criminal Record Check," don't you think?
No? What? You have a different idea? Anyone want to cue the "stupid" music?
I walked up to the desk, asked the woman sitting there if she spoke English.
"Yes," she said, "are you a something-something-something?"
She was speaking English. I could tell, but I couldn't quite understand what she was saying.
So she said it again, "Are you a something-something-something?"
She could see she wasn't getting through, so she handed me this:
She was asking me if I was a Migrant S*x Worker.
Oops, wrong door.
I kept the brochure.
If you are the sort interested in the facts, prostit*tion is legal in Austria. One must register, and be checked regularly for diseases, but as the brochure says, "S*x work is work!"
My criminal check, by the way, was clean as the proverbial whistle. Whew.

Reynard Ridge, I came back to COTH looking for you and The $700 Pony. I see she has a new, happy home! Best of luck to you and all of your travels!
I still read your first book a couple times a year and am now purchasing the sequel!
Love,
Alysheba.

I believe I started hearing the "stupid" music when I saw the photo. I KNEW something amusing was about to happen!
